Pituitary tumour

The pituitary gland is situated at the bottom of the brain and plays a very significant role in conducting various functions in the body. The occurrence of tumors in the pituitary glands is called pituitary tumors. Adenoma, Craniopharyngioma, and Chordoma are different types of tumors that grow in and around the pituitary gland and create various abnormalities in the human body.


i. Trans nasal trans sphenoidal approach excision of lesion
It is a modern surgical method of removing pituitary tumors. Through this method, the surgeon reaches the tumor by creating an incision through the nasal passage or the bone situated at the lower portion of the skull known as the sphenoid bone.
ii. Craniotomy and excision
It is a traditional method of operating a tumor present in the pituitary gland. The surgeon opens the entire skull to reach the spot of the tumor. The dimension of the incision depends on the spot of the tumor. The flap is placed back carefully to minimize risks and ensure effective results after the surgery.
